Special Volunteer Needed for King Tides Project

CoastWatch collaborates with the state’s Coastal Management Program on the King Tides Project every year.  Through this project, volunteer photographers document that highest tides of the year.  We have a trove of photographs, growing in value every year, as we develop an ever-more-detailed portrait of the coast’s vulnerability to flooding and sea level rise.

However, the photos, to be really valuable over time, need to be fully identified and annotated for the files.  This is a major task, and both CoastWatch and the Coastal Management Program find themselves short of the necessary time.  We need help from someone who understands the importance of the program, has some basic skills, and is willing to pitch in.

We’re looking for a dedicated volunteer needed to help with photo organization for the Oregon King Tides Project. The usefulness of our repository of King Tides images depends on the descriptive information for each photo on Flickr. We need help updating the photos submitted by volunteers this past winter season, to make sure our library is as up to date as possible. This is a virtual opportunity that can be done from home!

Responsibilities:

*Organizing the Oregon King Tides Flickr Account – 2019/2020 Winter Season. (Example of how photos should be updated: https://www.flickr.com/photos/orkingtide/45822444234/in/album-72157677218559268/)

*Adding tags to photos to increase search-ability

*Uploading photos from social media accounts and email to the Flickr platform and updating accordingly

*Other data updates as time and interest allow

Requirements:

*Must have a reliable computer with internet access

*Ability to work well independently

*Be detail-oriented

*Volunteer will be provided with training needed to complete these tasks, including instructions, photos, and photo information. Hours are flexible – you can work on your own time – for as little or as long as desired.
