Ancient Forest Presentation

 

The next event in the Cape Perpetua Speaker Series focuses on the old-growth forests of the Pacific Northwest.  Chandra LeGue will speak on “Exploring Oregon’s Ancient Forests” on Saturday, Feb. 1, 11 a.m. to noon, at the Cape Perpetua Visitor Center (2400 U.S. Hwy 101), about three miles south of Yachats.

LeGue is the Western Oregon field coordinator for Oregon Wild, and author of “Oregon’s Ancient Forests:  A Hiking Guide.”  She will discuss old-growth coastal forests, and also those of the Cascades and Eastern Oregon, describing their flora and fauna, the ecological role they play, how they are managed, and what threats we must deal with to protect them.

The event is free, but a Northwest Forest Pass, Oregon Coast Passport, federal recreation pass, or $5 day-use fee is required within the Cape Perpetua Scenic Area and at some trailheads and day use sites.
