Astoria Rally for River Restoration
(Note: This event, originally scheduled for Dec. 8, was postponed due to weather. This new schedule is tentative. Watch this space for updated information.)
Advocates for protecting wild salmon runs in the Columbia-Snake watersheds are rallying for removal of the dams on the Snake River. Federal agencies (the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Bonneville Power Administration and U.S. Bureau of Reclamation) are seeking public input to develop a new plan to save endangered wild salmon in the Columbia and Snake Rivers. There will be fifteen hearings scheduled this fall and one of them will be held in Astoria, December 8, 2016, 4-7 p.m. at The Loft (20 Basin St.)
A coalition of groups pushing for dam removal (Columbia Riverkeeper, WaterWatch, Earthjustice, Sierra Club, and the Pacific Northwest Federation of Fishermen’s Associations) are urging supporters to rally before at the Bridgewater Bistro for a “salmon happy hour,” get updated by speakers there, and then head together to the public hearing. Complimentary light snacks and beverages will be served; stronger fare available from the bar.
