Bandon Dunes Hike

Love it or hate it, the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort is one of the Oregon coast’s best-known destinations, and a strong influence on south coast society.  Here’s a chance to explore the place and see for yourself:  the South Coast Striders hiking group is sponsoring an expedition to Bandon Dunes on Saturday, March 21, beginning at 10 a.m.

Bandon Dunes is more than just a world class golf resort and a major impact to the coast north of Bandon.  There are more than six miles of trails on the resort grounds.  The hike will explore those trails.

 The full hike will be a six-mile scenic loop trail with woodlands, dunes, wetlands, a labyrinth, and an optional side trip to the beach at Bandon Dunes Resort.  Rated moderate. There are several opportunities to shorten the walk and return to the starting point. You can end the trip at the Trails End Grill where you can eat your sack lunch or, better yet, order from the menu.  

Meet at 10 a.m. in the parking lot near McKee's Pub on the resort’s grounds.

 From the North, take Hwy 101 south from Coos Bay for about 18 miles and turn right at the north entrance to Bandon Dunes Resort (Randolph Rd.).  Continue past guard station, turn right at stop sign, then follow signs to the main lodge (which will be a left turn).  Turn into the parking lot on right and go to north end, past McKee's Pub.

From the South, take Hwy 101 north from Bandon for about three miles.  Turn left into the south entrance to the Bandon Dunes resort (Fahy Rd., becoming Round Lake Rd.) and follow signs to the main lodge (about two miles).   You will take a left toward the main lodge, followed by a right into the parking lot.  Go to the north end of the lot (past McKee's Pub).
