Beachwalk and CoastWatch Clinic
CoastWatch Volunteer Coordinator Fawn Custer is offering a multifaceted shoreline experience on Sunday, Oct. 22, from 8-10 a.m. She will lead a beachwalk and CoastWatch training session on the beach north of Otter Rock. Meet her on the steps below the Inn at Otter Crest, or by walking up the beach from the parking lot at Otter Rock. This replaces the beachwalk that had been scheduled for Oct. 7, cancelled due to illness.
Custer will discuss the natural history of the beach and tidepools, and provide background on materials found in the driftline that day. She will also provide a “CoastWatch Clinic,” a quick introduction to basic mile monitoring together with an explanation of some of our special citizen science projects. The walk will last about two hours, although Fawn will certainly be glad to linger as long as there are questions.
The event is free, and any beachgoer interested in coastal natural history is welcome to join the walk and learn. The particular focus, though, is on training CoastWatchers or prospective mile adopters, and introducing our citizen science projects.
