The Friends of Haystack Rock host the Library Lecture Series on the second Wednesday of each month, November to May, 7-8:30 p.m. in the Cannon Beach Library (131 N Hemlock St.). These events are free and open to the public. Friends of Haystack Rock is a non-profit organization focused on keeping Haystack Rock healthy and thriving. 

The lecture on Wednesday, April 10, will be presented by Joe Liebezeit, who will discuss Oregon's Black Oystercatchers. This talk will unveil mysteries concerning the life of this striking denizen of Oregon's rocky shorelines, with the goal of helping to protect a species of grave conservation concern. Liebezeit is the Avian Conservation Program Manager at the Audubon Society of Portland.  He directs a number of citizen science projects for Audubon, and directs their coastal conservation program.  He has been at Audubon since 2013, and prior to that spent 12 years working for the Wildlife Conservation Society in Alaska, working to protect habitats for shorebirds and other wildlife in the face of oil spills and climate chanage.
