The Southcoast Striders hiking group invites the public to join them for a rugged, 8.5-mile hike to one of the coast’s most beautiful spots.  The hike will travel from Floras Lake to Blacklock Point, along beaches, forest trails and open headland areas.  A shorter version is also available.  The group promises to share local history and lore along the way to go with the views.

To join the expedition, meet at 10 a.m. on Sunday, July 7, at Curry County’s Boice-Cope County Park (92854 Floras Lake Rd.).  Turn off Hwy 101 about half a mile south of Langlois onto the Floras Lake Loop Road, and follow the signs about three miles to the park.

The hike is rated difficult, and includes some mild bushwhacking and a couple of steep inclines. It is recommended that you dress in layers, including a windbreaker (it can be windy out on the point).  Bring water and something to eat while pausing at Blacklock Point.

Those not up for the full-length hike can accompany the groups to various landmarks and then turn around, keeping the hike to 3-5 miles in length.
