Chuck Willer, director of the Coast Range Association, will speak on “Western Oregon in the Era of Climate Change:  The Transformation of Oregon Forests and Communities” on Monday, March 16, 6:30 p.m., in the Community Room of Lincoln City’s Driftwood Public Library (801 S.W. Hwy 101, #201).  The event, free and open to the public, is hosted by the American Association of University Women.

Willer speaks frequently in Oregon communities about rural timberland ownership, forest management, and the land-sea connection on the Oregon Coast. In this presentation, he will provide a layperson’s explanation of climate change with a focus on sea level rise and ocean acidification and their potential impact on coastal communities such as rising home prices and impacted fisheries.

Willer's talk will describe how the Green New Deal will apply to Oregon’s coast, highlighting the importance of growing older, carbon-dense forests while protecting our coast’s natural resources.

For 29 years, Chuck Willer has been a grassroots environmental leader. As director of the Coast Range Association, he has led numerous research efforts on coastal forestry, watershed conservation, and public lands management.
