The Friends of the Umpqua hiking group invites the public to join them for a hike at Cape Arago on the Coos County coast Nov. 17. The group meets before 8 a.m. in the Douglas County Courthouse parking lot behind the old Douglas County Library in Roseburg. Travel to and from the starting point at Sunset Bay should take about an hour and a half driving time each direction.  Those on the coast wishing to meet them should rendezvous at the Sunset Bay State Park day use area by 9:30 a.m.

Each participant should bring water, lunch, and layers of clothing including raingear. Those wishing to carpool should come prepared to share gas expenses.

The hike coordinator will have you sign a SignInWaiver to participate.

This partiuclar hike is a moderate eight miles. Cape Arago is a particularly scenic stretch of Oregon’s coast. Beginning at Sunset Bay, the group will follow the rocky shore through Shore Acres State Park, and all the way to Cape Arago and back. If you like fantastic shoreline scenery, waves crashing on rocks, coastal woods, and smelly sea lions, then this hike is a great option. For more information call or John Malone 541-673-1973.
