Cape Falcon Reserve Planning Workshop

The Marine Reserves Program of the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) is launching a site management planning process for the Cape Falcon Marine Reserve.  The public has been invited to a series of three workshops, during which the department will seek input from local residents on how best to share information and engage the communities of the northern coast on planning for the reserve’s future.  The last of these workshops takes place on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 6-8:30 p.m., in Garibaldi City Hall (107 6^th St.). 

Public feedback will assist ODFW in developing strategies for supporting scientific research, informing and engaging local communities, and enforcing reserve policies.  The management plan to be developed will also document local community interest in activities that go beyond those currently being carried out by the Marine Reserves Program.  By highlighting community interest in the management plan, ODFW hopes to attract additional resources to support research and other new projects for the marine reserve area.  This particular workshop takes place in the community whose fishermen most commonly fish the area immediately surrounding the marine reserve.

The workshop is thus an opportunity for citizens concerned about marine ecosystem protection as well as their local fishery to shape the future of the Cape Falcon Marine Reserve.
