An opportunity to take a guided walk and learn more about the ecosystems of Cape Perpetua, while assisting in inventorying species present in these habitats, is coming up on Saturday, Sept. 22, beginning at 11 a.m.  Participants will meet at the Cape Perpetua Visitor Center (2400 Hwy 101 N., about three miles south of Yachats), then take guided walks to both forest and intertidal areas, conducting a BioBlitz along the way.  This activity will take about two hours.

At 1 p.m., Janet Essley, a former artist-in-residence at Cape Perpetua, will give a presentation at the Visitor Center examining a new perspective on migrating shorebirds through Cultural Cartography of the annual migration of Red Knots.

And at 3 p.m., Jim Nechols, an insect biologist and retired professor, will present “Insect Defense Mechanisms” exploring how insects defend themselves against larger and stronger predators in several creative and effective ways.

All events are free and open to everyone.  To RSVP for the BioBlitz walks, contact Ian Throckmorton, CPbioblitz@gmail.com
