Cape Perpetua Volunteer Appreciation

The annual Cape Perpetua Volunteer Appreciation Event celebrates the wide range of voluntary activity focused on that stretch of Oregon’s shore (including the monitoring done by CoastWatchers).  It is usually a party in Yachats with food, drink and fellowship.  This year, like so much else, it has moved online, but the party is still happening.

On Thursday, Aug. 27, the Cape Perpetua Collaborative is hosting a “virtual happy hour” and sharing slides with metrics of volunteers in action as well as some sort of interactive activity (still to-be-decided) to recognize the accomplishments of volunteer citizen science participants, docents and interpretive staff within Cape Perpetua Marine Reserve area and celebrate a successful spring/summer volunteer monitoring and tourism season.  The event will take place 5:30-7 p.m. via Zoom. 

The event is open to all current, prospective and newly committed volunteers engaging in agency, community groups or NGO efforts within the Cape Perpetua Marine Reserve and Marine Protected Areas in addition to adjacent special management areas activities – Visitors Center and trail docents, Whale Watch volunteers, CoastWatch, Surfrider, Audubon, USFS, OPRD, ODFW and many more!

There will be brief updates on developing partnership work at Cape Perpetua, and information about a variety of projects that take place in the area.
