Citizen Science at Otter Rock

CoastWatch Volunteer Coordinator Fawn Custer, joined by highly knowledgeable volunteer Karen Driscoll, plan a community science day at the Otter Rock Marine Reserve.  Meet them at 8 a.m. on the beach to the north of the community of Otter Rock (take the trail that starts near the restrooms down to the shoreline on the north side of Devils Punchbowl).  Fawn will be wearing her bright orange rainpants—you can’t miss her.  Low tide is at 9:29; the event runs through 11 a.m.  It is free and open to all.

Fawn and Karen will introduce the range of CoastWatch citizen science projects.  The sea star survey and general tidepool exploration start the day off.  The marine debris survey will be introduced at 9 a.m, the beached bird survey at 9:30 a.m., and the marine mammal survey at 10.  Questions answered, general information about the shoreline provided, and guidance in CoastWatch monitoring offered throughout the morning.  Come for a little while or for the entire event.
