Climate Adaptation Workshop

Those concerned about the potential effects of climate change on coastal communities, and interested in learning how to help their communities adapt, have an opportunity to explore the issues at the Climate Adaptation for Coastal Communities Workshop,  Oct. 6-8 at Oregon Coast Community College (400 S.E. College Way, in the South Beach area of Newport).  The event is free (meals are on your own); sponsors include the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Oregon Sea Grant, the South Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve, the Oregon Partnership for Disaster Resilience and the Oregon Coastal Management Program.

The three-day interactive workshop is designed to provide planners, local officials, emergency managers, and environmental groups with a “climate adaptation toolkit.”  Segments of the agenda deal with climate science, risk assessment, adaptive planning and communication, among other topics.  The workshop will also provide citizens seeking to engage their communities in addressing climate-related hazards with a chance to network and exchange ideas with others engaged in this field
