Our partner in the Coastal Law Project, the Crag Law Center, is sending attorneys to the south coast to provide a workshop for local citizens on community engagement in public procedures affecting the environment.

Attorney Scott Hilgenberg, who assists Oregon Shores on land use issues, will meet with all interested parties for a roundtable discussion and question-and-answer session at the Bandon Public Library (1204 11th St., S.W.) in the Sprague Room at 1:30 p.m.  This is a free event, open to all.  In particular, it is an opportunity for Oregon Shores members and  CoastWatchers to hone skills needed to protect the shoreline and coastal shorelands from damaging forms of development.

The informal workshop will consist of conversations between community members and environmental non-profit attorneys from Crag. The focus will be on how to meaningfully participate in local government decision-making on issues that are important to coastal communities. Crag attorneys will provide tips on writing public comments, discuss local and state land use procedures, and converse about environmental topics such as climate adaptation, protecting fisheries and other concerns.
