Coastal Prairie Restoration Day
We don’t usually list restoration projects in our online calendar, because there are so many that take place along coastal streams and rivers—we would be overwhelmed. But we’ll make an exception for an upcoming volunteer restoration activity being conducted by the North Coast Land Conservancy (NCLC), not only because it takes place right along the coast behind the dunes, but because one of the species being restored is Angelica, CoastWatch’s totemic plant.
On Wednesday, Nov. 6, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., NCLC will lead volunteers in an effort to plan beach strawberry and Henderson’s Angelica, both native plants in coastal prairies, as part of the conservancy’s restoration efforts at its Surf Pines Prairie Habitat Reserve near Gearhart.
If you’d like to help, contact NCLC Land Steward Eric Owen at erico@NCLCtrust.org to let him know you’re coming and to get directions to the site.
Wear sturdy boots and gloves. All necessary tools will be provided. Bring drinking water and lunch; there will be no toilets or potable water on site. Dogs are not allowed on NCLC properties.
