As part of the Sharing the Coast Conference, we’re offering a Sunday field trip at the Otter Rock Marine Reserve.  While it is being provided for conference-goers, it is open to all without charge.  If you aren’t attending the conference but would like the opportunity to learn more about CoastWatch mile monitoring and citizen science, you are welcome to participate.

Participants will meet CoastWatch Volunteer Coordinator Fawn Custer at the parking lot in the Otter Rock community and venture down to the beach.   Fawn offers the opportunity to learn the protocols for CoastWatch reports, sea star monitoring, marine debris surveys, and King Tide photos, and learn to identify some of the common tide pool invertebrates.  If you arrive late, make your way to the beach on the north side of Otter Rock and look for Fawn in her trademark orange rainpants.

Be sure to RSVP—because this is part of the conference, there could be changes depending on whether conference-goers sign up for this, so Fawn needs to know if others are coming.  To RSVP, or for more information, contact Fawn Custer at (541) 270-0027, fawn@oregonshores.org.
