Fawn Custer, until recently our CoastWatch volunteer coordinator and now our citizen science trainer, invites all comers to join her for a beachwalk on Sporthaven Beach in Brookings-Harbor (CoastWatch Mile 3). This beach is located just south of the Chetco River (16340 Lower Harbor Rd.).  To local residents this area on the south side of the river is Harbor, although the official address for map-searching purposes is Brookings.  By any name, the beach is found at the end of the road on the south side of the Chetco.

The walk begins at 11 a.m. on Sunday, July 21, and will last about two hours.  Fawn will provide both a guided beachwalk, for those wanted to learn more about the denizens of the beach and the materials washed up in the driftline, and a training session for CoastWatchers and prospective CoastWatchers.  You’ll learn about identifying beach finds, and also about monitoring the shore for CoastWatch.  All are welcome to this free and family friendly event.

You won’t have any trouble identifying Fawn out on the beach—she will be wearing her trademark orange rainpants.  For more information, contact her at (541) 270-0027, fawn@oregonshores.org.
