CoastWatch Volunteer Coordinator Jesse Jones will lead a CoastWatch orientation session on Saturday, July 30, at Indian Beach within Ecola State Park, just north of Cannon Beach.  Meet at 7:30 a.m. at the Indian Beach parking area near the top of the trail (near the restrooms).  An Oregon State Parks Parking Pass will be needed.

The walk takes place on CoastWatch Mile 317. CoastWatch volunteers (especially new ones) and those curious about joining CoastWatch and volunteering to adopt a mile are welcome. The walk will last about 90 minutes. Jesse Jones will share what CoastWatch volunteers observe while walking their miles, helpful items to bring along, and which citizen and community science projects are available in the area. She will go through a CoastWatch observation sheet and answer questions. Bring comfortable walking shoes and dress for the weather.

This will be a good opportunity to learn about how you can volunteer at Ecola State Park to assist in black oystercatcher nest and chick monitoring. Jesse will also show you how to identify a wasting sea star and contribute observations to MARINe.

To register or with questions, contact Jesse Jones at (503) 989-7244, jesse@oregonshores.org. Registration is needed, as places are limited.
