Community Conversation, Offshore Wind--Charleston

Rogue Climate, a nonprofit advocating for climate justice in Southern Oregon, is hosting a series of Community Conversations on Floating Offshore Wind Energy throughout Coos County. On Monday, Sept. 12, at 6 p.m., Rogue Climate is hosting a discussion at the Sea Basket Restaurant (63502 Kingfisher Road on the Charleston Marina in Coos Bay) to help identify and advocate for priorities throughout the process as the community faces possible development of offshore wind energy turbines. 

The federal Bureau of Ocean Energy Management has targeted Oregon’s southern coastal  region as a possible location for floating offshore wind development due to its high winds and potential to generate renewable energy. There are two “call areas” off the south coast where BOEM intends to offer leases for wind energy development, and a strong likelihood that this would lead to major industrial infrastructure in the Coos Bay estuary. Oregon Shores is collaborating with many allies, including Rogue Climate, to call on BOEM to slow down the process and conduct a comprehensive environmental analysis for all proposed offshore wind energy projects on the West Coast.
