Comprehensive CoastWatch Training

On Sunday, Feb. 10, CoastWatch Volunteer Coordinator Fawn Custer will be offering a comprehensive CoastWatch training at the Fire Mountain School (6505 Elk Flat Rd.) in Falcon Cove, south of Arch Cape in southernmost Clatsop County.  The event, beginning at 10 a.m., is free and open to all, whether current CoastWatchers seeking additional training, prospective new mile adopters, or simply interested members of the public.

Fawn will cover basic CoastWatch monitoring, including details on filling out mile reports and submitting them.  Questions strongly encouraged.  Specimens will be on display to illustrate some typical shoreline finds.  She will also cover the protocols for our various citizen science projects.  Fawn invites veterans of these citizen science projects to attend and share stories about their experiences.  The session should end up at about 1:30 p.m., depending on how many questions there are.  Feel free to attend for part of the time.

Note that there will be an event that evening at the Hoffman Center in Manzanita, just on the other side of Cape Falcon, which will provide a great deal more background on the King Tide volunteer photography project.  See separate listing.
