CONNECT! The Boardwalks is a community organization in Coos County that seeks to bring new life to Coos Bay’s waterfront through the improvement of the Coos Waterfront Walkway. Their goal is to connect three separate boardwalks—the Coos Bay, Mill Casino and North Bend boardwalks—to form a single, five-mile linear walkway along the Coos Bay waterfront.
At its meeting on Thursday, March 24, the group is offering inspiration in the form of Global Harbors: A Waterfront Renaissance, an hour-long documentary about the international phenomenon of harbor redevelopment. The film focuses on the revival of the Inner Harbor in downtown Baltimore, which transformed an abandoned, blighted area into a world-renowned cultural and entertainment destination. Baltimore’s success with the Inner Harbor initiative has since been imitated by many port cities. The film tells the tale through first-person accounts from community leaders who accomplished this feat.
The meeting, free and open to the public, runs from 6 to 7:30 p.m. After some initial announcements, the film will begin at about 6:15. For more information, contact Elizabeth Spona of CONNECT! the Boardwalks, (541) 297-5101, mzconnect15@gmail.com.
