Environmental Symposium
The University of Oregon’s Center for Environmental Futures is hosting a symposium on Environmental Justice, Race, and Public Lands. The event takes place May 9-11 at various locations on the U of O campus. All symposium activities are free and open to all, and does not require registration.
Dozens of speakers and panelists will be featured. Among notable presentations are the opening keynote address by Native American philosopher Kyle Whyte (Thursday, May 10, 7:30pm in Straub Hall, Room 156) entitled “Ironic Storytelling for Public Lands: Indigenizing Justice and Coalition-Building”, and Carolyn Finney’s keynote address (Friday, May 11, 7:30 p.m., also in Straub Hall Room 156). Finney is the author of “Black Faces, White Spaces: Reimagining the Relationship of African Americans to the Great Outdoors.”
The symposium will open with the annual Climate Change and Indigenous Peoples Lecture (Wed, May 9, 6:30 p.m., at the Many Nations Longhouse), featuring Dr. Karletta Chief and Dr. Margaret Hiza-Redsteer.
