Floras Lake Celebration Hike (Date Changed)
Note: The date of this event has changed--it was delayed one day due to rain expected on Saturday.
The Kalmiopsis Audubon Society (KAS) is holding a special hike and belated celebration of the group’s success in advocating for the addition of 90 acres of lakefront land previously owned by Curry County to Floras Lake State Natural Area back in 2019. The plan to celebrate in spring, 2020, was derailed like so much else by the pandemic. But now the time has come.
This event now takes place on Sunday, Oct. 23, beginning at 10 a.m. with refreshments at Boice-Cope Park (92850 Boice Cope Lane, just south of Langlois) and recognition of the contributions of key volunteers, followed by a hike out to the new part of the park, led by KAS president Ann Vileisis. A contingent will return to the trailhead, but for those who want to hike farther, a second group will continue onward to explore some special areas of the Floras Lake Natural Area. The short hike will be about three miles round-trip; the longer hike will be about seven miles round-trip.
Meet at Boice-Cope Park. Please contact Sunny Capper for more information and to RSVP ahead of time: sunny.j.capper@gmail.com.
