Global Climate Strike

A massive global “climate strike” on Friday, Sept. 20, will seek to draw attention to the urgency of the climate crisis and the need for action.  Events will be happening all over the planet and all over Oregon.  On the coast, a rally is scheduled from noon to 1 p.m. in Seaside, at Hwy 101 and Broadway.  In Newport, at 6:30 p.m. in the Hatfield Marine Science Center (2030 S.E. Marine Science Dr. in the South Beach area), four speakers--Mary DeMocker, Brian Etting, Jason Gonzales, and Maia Stone--will address the Climate Crisis and what we can do about it.  Plenty of time will be left for questions.  The event is free and open to all.

On Saturday, Sept. 21, a rally in support of student strikers will take place in front of the Newport City Hall from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Participants are encouraged to bring posters, banners, and drums, alo;ng with voices. 

On Sunday, Sept. 22, the Central Coast Unitarian Fellowship is sponsoring a discussion led by Lincoln County climate activist Bill Kucha from 10:15 to noon at the Newport Visual Arts Center (777 N.W. Beach Dr. in the Nye Beach area).  This event is free and open to all.

On Friday, Sept. 27, a climate strike rally will take place in Astoria from noon to 1 p.m. on Marine Drive east of 16^th St.  Also in Astoria, a free showing of the film “Paris to Pittsburgh” will take place at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 22, at the Columbian Theatre (1102 Marine Dr.).  The film highlights local actions being taken to combat global warming.
