Global Dialogue on Ocean Accounting
Night owls in Oregon who care about the health of the ocean have an opportunity to sit in on a global event that is intended to advance knowledge of planning for sustainable ocean resource use. The “3rd Global Dialogue on Ocean Accounting: Towards an Agenda for Action” takes place on Wednesday, March 30, 12:30 a.m., our time. (This is 2:30 p.m. in Jakarta, Indonesia, which is home base for the event. As it is a global dialogue, it is taking place simultaneously around the world in all its time zones.)
The event is sponsored by the Global Ocean Accounts Partnership (GOAP), which is “a global, multistakeholder partnership established to enable countries and other stakeholders to go beyond GDP to effectively measure and manage progress towards ocean sustainable development.”
Ocean accounts organize social, economic and environmental information to enable coherent measurement of progress towards sustainable ocean development. The event will bring together governments, international organizations, research institutions, and other stakeholders to discuss the importance of ocean accounts, how they are implemented and what they deliver for countries and coastal communities. The event will also facilitate the creation of an agenda for action to further ocean accounting efforts among a global community of practice.
