Hearing on Coquille Point Hotel

Round two of the Bandon Planning Commission’s consideration of a hotel development proposed for the city’s iconic Coquille Point is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 24, 7 p.m. at Bandon City Hall (555 Hwy 101).  This is a continuation of a hearing held on the proposal on Nov. 15.

Early in 2018, Oregon Shores played an active role in opposing the previous version of the hotel, which was much larger and required a change in the city’s zoning.  The planning commission voted that one down.  Now, the would-be developer—Mike Keiser, the owner of the Bandon Dunes golf complex—has come back with a scaled-down version, which is small enough to qualify for a conditional use permit within the city’s existing plan.  The proposed hotel, on the site of the now-closed Bandon Beach Motel, will be harder to oppose since it doesn’t require an amendment to the city’s comprehensive plan.  But it still poses threats to birds and other wildlife on the national wildlife refuge immediately adjacent.  More details can be found in our website article.
