The State Land Board, consisting of the Governor, Secretary of State, and Treasurer, meets on May 9, 10 a.m. until noon, to consider once again the fate of the Elliott State Forest.  The earlier decision was to sell off the forest to provide funds for schools, and Department of State Lands staffers have been working toward this end.  Gov. Kate Brown has proposed a $100 million bonding program to keep the forest in public hands while meeting the objective of utilizing state lands to fund schools.  Treasurer Tobias Read initially supported sale of the forest, but under severe pressure from environmentalists has now announced that he is supportive of finding an alternative that would preserve the forest.

The meeting will include time for public comment, so this is an opportunity for supporters of public lands to make their voices heard.
