The High Highs of Winter: King Tides Kickoff
Join Oregon Shores Conservation Coalition to celebrate the start of the King Tides season. This event will occur on Monday, November 20, at Kala (Kala 1017 Marine Drive in Astoria).
The Oregon King Tides Project is a community science effort that recruits volunteers to take pictures that depict the highest reach of the highest tides of the year. Documenting current vulnerabilities to flooding can provide a preview of what could be typical high tides in the future.
CoastWatch Programs Manager Jesse Jones will share the history of the Oregon King Tides Project and how participating in community science projects can assist in community planning for safety, public health, and more. She will also show high water photos from previous years and point out areas on the north coast where photos are still needed.
Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., and the talk will begin at 7:00 p.m. The event is free and there is a beverage bar!
