Join Reg Pullen and the South Coast Striders for a rugged 8.5 mile journey from Floras Lake to Blacklock Point along beaches, densely wooded trails and exposed rocky points with beautiful ocean views. It is a hike with plenty of history and local lore in the mix. There are two options for this particular hike, a long and short version.

Location and Time

Meet at 10 a.m. at Boice-Cope County Park

Directions: From Bandon, travel south on Hwy. 101 to Langlois. Go 1/2 mile past Langlois and turn right (west) on Floras Lake Loop Road. Follow the signs 3 miles to Floras Lake and Boice-Cope County Park.  If coming from the south, take a left on Floras Lake Loop Road...and then follow the signs.

Suggested Carpool Sites and departure times:

  • Bay Area Visitor Center—9:00 a.m.
  • Coquille Visitor Center—9:00 a.m.
  • Ray’s in Bandon—9:20 a.m.
  • Battle Rock Park Visitor Center—9:30 a.m.

The longer version of the hike is 8.5 miles; this hike is rated difficult-to-most-difficult, with some bushwhacking.  For a shorter hike, there will be several key landmarks that will be good points at which to stop and return earlier.  Dress in layers, windbreaker with a hood is highly recommended.  Bring water and something to eat during a stop at the point.
