Andrea Scharf, author of “Saving Big Creek,” will discuss the campaign to preserve this area in a talk at the Cape Perpetua Visitor Center on Saturday, Feb. 29, 11 a.m.  The visitor center (2400 Hwy. 101) is located about three miles south of Yachats.

In her presentation, “Saving Big Creek, Saving the Silverspot Butterfly,” Scharf will talk about the history of the Big Creek campaign to stop development of a destination resort on the property, and efforts to restore the Oregon Silverspot Butterfly population and bring it back from the brink of extinction.  (Oregon Shores strongly supported the effort to preserve Big Creek.)

The event is free, but a day use or Recreation Pass is required when visiting the Cape Perpetua Scenic Area and at some trailheads and day use sites. For more information on these events, contact the Cape Perpetua Visitor Center at 541-547-3289.
