The Southcoast Striders hiking group is sponsoring two hikes of varying lengths at Humbug Mountain, south of Port Orford.  The hikes are free and open to anyone, although places are limited.  However, if there is enough interest, it might be possible to organize additional groups that would leave at staggered times.

The hikes both leave from the Humbug Mountain trailhead, on Hwy 101 about six miles south of Port Orford, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 26.

The longer hike is just over five miles, but has significant elevation gain and is thus difficult.  This one goes up the East trail, which will give us good views to the south near the top, and then returns by the West trail, which provides good views of Port Orford.

The shorter hike isn’t much shorter, at just over four miles in length, but doesn’t have nearly so much elevation gain. It follows along the old coast highway and offers good views of Humbug Mountain itself, Redfish Rocks, and the town of Port Orford. If there isn’t a ‘leader’ for this hike, participants may need to do a ‘self-guided’ hike
