Inland CoastWatch Anniversary Bash
Our year-long celebration of CoastWatch’s 25th anniversary comes to Portland on Tuesday, July 10, when we’ll gather at Dan and Louis Oyster Bar (208 S.W. Ankeny St.) beginning at 5 p.m. We’ll toast our quarter-century of accomplishment, to be sure, and there will be plenty of time for socializing with fellow coast-lovers, but the real focus is on the next 25 years. The event offers an opportunity to learn more about coastal ecology, and more about CoastWatch’s plans for the future.
The evening will feature not one, but two talks by coastal ecologist Stewart Schultz, author of “The Northwest Coast: A Natural History” and a leading expert on the shoreline environments of the Pacific Northwest. At about 5:30 p.m., he will discuss the ecology of Oregon’s beaches. And at 7 p.m., he will take up the topic of rocky shore ecology. We’ll throw in a few words about CoastWatch’s history and future, and there will be plenty of time to mingle, eat, and drink before, in-between, and after the talks.
Beer will be on us, courtesy of Widmer Brothers Brewery—donations requested instead. Food and other beverages will be available from Dan and Louis. The restaurant is not only donating the space, but contributing all profits from sales as well.
More details will be available as we get closer to the date, but mark your calendars now and plan to join us to learn and celebrate.
