International Coastal Cleanup Day
Saturday, Sep. 16, is International Coastal Cleanup Day. SOLVE is working to recruit leaders interested in organizing their own cleanups along any Oregon beaches or rivers from Sep. 9-17. This is a great opportunity for CoastWatchers to do extra stewardship for their mile. Sign up here to lead an event; once you have it set up, reach out to Jesse Jones (jesse@oregonshores.org) so Oregon Shores can help promote it. Jesse is also working hard to eliminate plastic bags from beach cleanups, and she can help you get in touch with Oregon breweries to reuse spent grain bags.
More about the event:
"The Beach & Riverside Cleanup gives us a chance to care for the special rivers, beaches, and waterways we love. Every year, SOLVE mobilizes dozens of community-led projects and thousands of volunteers to protect and improve Oregon’s waterways from source to sea. We are proud to host this event as part of the International Coastal Cleanup's global effort.
This summer, as the sun shines brighter, the temperatures rise, and the beaches and rivers beckon, it is the perfect time to reflect on the significance of preserving these natural treasures that bring joy and tranquility to our lives. For SOLVE, summer is the season of caring for our beaches and waterways. We look forward to all of the fun we are going to have and positive impacts that we will make through the numerous events already lined up on our calendar. Join us this summer for a season of volunteering and fun!
SOLVE was founded in 1969 with a focus on cleaning Oregon's beautiful beaches. Nearly 55 years later we are continuing this tradition and we need your help. We are looking for volunteers to lead a beach or river cleanup event for our annual Beach and River Cleanup series. This year the events will run from September 9th through September 17th, with the main events occurring Saturday, September 16th.
For 2023, our goal is to highlight over 100 project sites statewide, from up and down the Oregon Coast to Portland and the Willamette Valley to Central and Eastern Oregon. Take part in this annual Oregon tradition! Get involved early. We are accepting projects from current and new leaders."
