King Tide Talk and CoastWatch Clinic

Our CoastWatch volunteer coordinator, Fawn Custer, invites one and all to join her for a session that will combine basic CoastWatch training with some specifics on our King Tide citizen science project, as well as other citizen science efforts in which CoastWatch is involved.  The session takes place in the meeting hall ("the yurt") in the day use area at Beverly Beach State Park north of Newport, between Yaquina Head and Otter Rock, from noon until about 2 p.m. (depending on whether a beachwalk follows).

Fawn will provide a general “CoastWatch Clinic”—a how-to-do-it review of the techniques for monitoring a CoastWatch mile.  This is a chance for central coast mile adopters to obtain any training they feel they need, and to hone their skills.  This is also an opportunity for prospective volunteers to learn about CoastWatch and consider adopting a mile.  Bring your questions!

The session will also focus on the King Tide photography project, as Fawn will provide pointers for those willing to volunteer themselves and their cameras for the third round of the project in January.

Weather allowing, participants can then head to the beach with Fawn for some on-the-ground training and guided beachcombing.
