King Tide Training in Cannon Beach

As we gear up for the final round of this winter’s King Tide Project (January 10-12, 2017), we’ll be giving prospective participants on the north coast some background and training in how to help document the highest reach of the year’s extreme tides.
Fawn Custer, CoastWatch volunteer coordinator, will give a presentation on the King Tide Project on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 10 a.m. in the Cannon Beach City Hall (163 E. Gower St.). She will provide background on the Oregon branch of this international citizen science project, and explain what kinds of photos will be most helpful. She will also provide detailed information on how to participate.
The featured speaker for this event will be Fran Recht, habitat program manager for the Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission, and a former president and conservation director for Oregon Shores. Her topic will be “How will sea level rise effect the tidal wetlands in Oregon's estuaries?”
Weather permitting, the talk will be followed by a beachwalk, during which Fawn will not only demonstrate the King Tide Project, but also discuss CoastWatch’s other citizen science projects.
