King Tides Project--Second Series

The second round of this winter’s King Tides Project takes place Dec. 22-24, with the second set of high tides on which this citizen science effort will focus. 

Through the King Tides Project, volunteer photographers document the reach of the winter’s highest tides.  The final high tide sequence included in the 2022-2023 of this project, now in its 13^th year, takes place Jan. 20-22, 2023. (The first round happened in November.)  Go here to learn more.

High tide on Dec. 22 will come at about 10:22 a.m., depending on your specific location on the coast; high tide on the other days will be progressively later.  The idea is to take photos as close to the moment of the highest reach of the tide as possible.

To help prospective volunteers get ready, CoastWatch and the state’s Coastal Management Program are holding a King Tides Kickoff session on Thursday, Dec. 22, 7 p.m., at the Fort George Brewery, 14^th and Duane in Astoria. (See separate event listing.)
