Listening and land use would seem to be very different subjects, but earthquakes and tsunamis can certainly rearrange the landscape, and scientists are now refining their ability to listen for impending earthquakes.  This will be Ben Holtzman’s topic when he speaks on “Seismology with your Ears: Listening to Patterns in Tectonic, Volcanic and Human-induced Earthquakes” on Tuesday, May 11, at 4:15 p.m.  The talk is part of Southwestern Oregon Community Colleges Geology Lecture Series, now online during the pandemic era.  It is free and open to all.

Dr. Holtzman is a research professor with the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University and a lecturer in Earth and Environmental Sciences  He works at the intersection of rock physics, seismology, and geodynamics.
