The Oregon Institute of Marine Biology (OIMB) is hosting a public lecture on Friday, Oct. 21, at 4 p.m. in the OIMB Boathouse Auditorium (63466 Boat Basin Rd in Charleston). The speaker for this event is Ed Hughes from the Department of Fish and Wildlife and his talk is titled “Restoring estuary and freshwater habitats for salmon. Is it half the battle?”
About the speaker:
"Ed Hughes was born and raised in Fredericksburg, Virginia and moved to Oregon in 1998 where in 2008 he earned a BS in Fish and Wildlife from Oregon State University in Corvallis. In October of 2009 he began work on a Master's degree at University of Maine with Joe Zydlewski as his advisor. Ed is studying Atlantic salmon spawning migrations in the Penobscot River in relation to dam removals scheduled by the Penobscot River Restoration Trust. Ed enjoys hiking, biking and kayaking during his time away from computers and electronic equipment. Atlantic salmon adult spawning migration and movements in the Penobscot River. RFID/PIT telemetry of fish through nine fishways at hydroelectric dams is used to assess the efficacy of management transport strategies and river restoration actions."
This event is free and open to all. Registration is not required. To reach the OIMB Boathouse Auditorium, park on Boat Basin Rd. near the campus and walk down the road past the Coast Guard housing.
