Join the Kalmiopsis Audobon and trip leader Gary Maschmeyer on the Orchard Loop section of the beautiful Rogue River Walk, looking for birds of the forest and river. This is a good area to find Common Yellowthroat, Yellow-breasted Chat, Pacific-slope Flycatcher and Anna’s and Allen Hummingbirds. As an added treat the Willow Flycatcher that they saw 2 years ago is back. Gary has heard him singing!

No birding experience is required, and experts are welcome to come share their knowledge. While they do a lot of walking, when they spot birds, they do a lot of looking, which can require standing in the same spot for long periods of time. Binoculars are recommended, and they have a few binoculars that first-timers may borrow.

These trips are weather-dependent. Rain will postpone any of their bird outings. Any field trip that is rained out will be rescheduled 3 or 4 days later, and those on their emailing list will be notified. Others can call Gary for the rescheduled date. If there is any question as to whether a bird outing is going to be postponed, you may call Gary in the morning before the scheduled outing.

To find out more, contact Gary at 541-412-0806. To sign up for the Let's Go Birding email reminder list, send a note to gmasch@charter.net  (Getting on the list helps ensure you get word of added trips that may not be listed on the schedule, and any last-minute, weather related changes.)

They are meeting at Gold Beach Visitor Center at 8am. To carpool from Brookings, meet Gary at the Azalea Middle School parking lot at 505 Pacific Ave in Brookings at 7:15 AM. For more info on Let’s Go Birding Field trips, check out http://www.kalmiopsisaudubon.org/letsgobirding
