Local Effects of Climate Change

350 Oregon Central Coast and the Newport group of Citizens’ Climate Lobby (CCL) are sponsoring a meeting with five speakers about the "Local Effects of Climate Change.” The event, free and open to the public, takes place 7-8:30 p.m., on Wednesday, Sept. 19 at the Newport Public Library (35 N.W. Nye St.).
Evan Hayduk, restoration specialist for the MidCoast Watersheds Council, will discuss the Sea Level Rise- Landward Migration Zones project, with a special focus on Newport and Yaquina Bay.
Sonny Mehta, field director for Renew Oregon, will explain upcoming carbon reduction legislation proposals, such as the Clean Energy Jobs bill, coming up before the Oregon Legislature, and how environmental groups will be working to help pass this legislation.
Lincoln City Mayor Don Williams will speak from a different perspective about his views of climate change.
Martin Desmond, volunteer coordinator for the Newport group of CCL, will discuss the results of the local climate change questionnaire and efforts to develop a broad-based Lincoln County public and private climate change partnership.
Bill Kucha of 350 Oregon Central Coast will be discussing efforts to have the City of Newport endorse the Human Rights and Climate Change poster.
