In an effort to provide extra time for public review and input, Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife staff are releasing materials early for the upcoming Marbled Murrelet exhibit at the Friday, Feb. 9 Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission meeting in Portland.  The meeting begins at 8 a.m. in the Sheraton Hotel (8235 N.E. Airport Way, Mt. Adams Room) in Portland.

The materials, which include the Department’s Marbled Murrelet status review, are now available for viewing and download from the Commission webpage.  The exact time the discussion will take place isn’t certain; it comes fourth among the commission’s agenda items for the meeting.

The commission will be asked to decide whether to accept the petitioners’ recommendation to reclassify the Marbled Murrelet as endangered under the Oregon Endangered Species Act. If the commission decides that uplisting is warranted, rulemaking to reclassify the species and adopt survival guidelines would occur at the June, 2018 commission meeting.

Further background on the Marbled Murrelet petition and associated rulemaking process is provided in the meeting materials and outlined on the Department’s Marbled Murrelet webpage.

More information on meeting procedures and guidance on providing testimony are available here. Written comments may be sent to the Commission at odfw.commission@state.or.us.
