Marine Debris Film and Training
Fawn will be showing, by special permission, the film It’s Everybody’s Ocean, by Atsuko Quirk. It tells the inspiring story of how the 750 residents of Ikema, a tiny Japanese island, are coping with tons of plastic marine debris originating from all over Asia. Fawn will use this as a take-off point to discuss marine debris here in Oregon and provide an introduction to our ongoing marine debris survey, which is always in need of additional volunteers.
Fawn will also give a brief overview of our CoastWatch citizen science projects, and answer questions about the shoreline, beachcombing finds, and CoastWatch. Please attend to learn more about how you can get further involved in CoastWatch and citizen science—and please invite along others who might be interested.
