Mayfly Festival
The Coos Watershed Association is celebrating its 25th year of caring for the Coos Bay watershed with its 3rd annual Coos Watershed Mayfly Festival. The event takes place on Saturday, May 18, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the pond in Coos Bay’s Mingus Park (on N. 10th St.).
The Mayfly Festival is a free, family-friendly event sponsored by the Coos Watershed Association and other local partners. It is an interactive festival featuring hands-on science activities, live music, games, food, costume-making, face-painting, community art projects, and a parade around the Mingus Pond, among other activities. Many of the activities will be designed and led by local youth. Everyone is invited to celebrate the watershed, listen to youth musicians from The Metro Gnomes, The BuzzKrill, and the Hillcrest Choir and Marimba Ensemble, and enjoy local food provided by Sea Kitty Seafoods, Blazing Bulldogs North Bend High School Wood Fired Oven, and the Coos Head Food Co-Op.
The Coos Watershed Assn. created the Mayfly Festival in 2017 as a way to connect with the community while celebrating the watershed. Mayflies offer an important theme of interconnectedness to the festival--attend on May 18 to learn more. For more information about the Coos Watershed Association, visit www.cooswatershed.org.
