On Thursday, Feb. 23, the next Nature Matters talk will focus on Oregon's Marine Reserves.

The Nature Matters series consists of monthly conversations about the intersection of nature and culture. These events take place on the fourth Thursdays of the month at 7 p.m., October through May, at the Fort George Brewery + Public House (1483 Duane Street in Astoria).

About the talk:

"Our next Nature Matters features Dr. Lindsay Aylesworth, the newly appointed Marine Reserves program leader with the Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife. Aylesworth will present program highlights 7 p.m. on February 23 in the Lovell Showroom at the Fort George Brewery. Doors open at 6 p.m. for beverage and food purchase. The public event is free.

In 2012, Oregon kicked off its five-site marine reserve program with the establishment of reserves at Otter Rock and Redfish Rocks. The other three spots, including the Cape Falcon Marine Reserve site on the north coast, came into effect in 2014 and 2016. The five marine reserve sites are areas in the ocean dedicated to conservation and scientific research."

Doors open at 6 p.m. to purchase dinner or beverages at the George before the event. The series delves into how humans look to the natural world for inspiration, sustenance, and survival. The collaborative series is hosted by Lewis and Clark National Historical Park, Lewis & Clark National Park Association, and the North Coast Watershed Association in partnership with the Fort George Brewery + Public House and is free to the public.
