OPAC Meeting on Rocky Shores

The campaign to designate certain key rocky shore habitats for special levels of protection now moves to the Ocean Policy Advisory Council (OPAC), which meets on Monday, May 17, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The public comment period, when citizens an weigh in on the decisions about rocky habitat site designations, takes place at 10 a.m.  The recommendations of OPAC’s Rocky Habitat Working Group will be considered at 11 a.m., and next steps in the process will be discussed at 1 p.m. (with a lunch break in between).  The working group recommended protection for Coquille Point in Coos County and Rocky Point (as a research reserve) in Curry County, while consideration will be continued for other sites, including Blacklock Point, where Oregon Shores took the lead.
