On Wednesday, Nov. 1, Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD) will hold an “open house” to gather public input on its plans to improve the trail system at Floras Lake Natural Area. The event takes place 5:30-7 p.m. at the Langlois Public Library (48234 Oregon Coast Hwy.). Local environmentalists have worked long and hard to assure the protection of this area; now there is an opportunity to weigh in on its management.
The Floras Lake Natural Area encompasses lands between Airport Road and Floras Lake, including the dramatic Blacklock Point and sandstone cliffs to the north. Some things to advocate for are: controlling gorse on the south end of the trail system and on the south side of Blacklock Point as a priority; fixing the bridge and waterlogged trail through the creek area; considering how to better deal with trails through areas with winter standing water; providing better signage at trail junctures and maps and better information at the trailhead. This is a great opportunity to have input on the future of this cherished state park.
