Oregon Shorebird Festival
The 33rd annual Oregon Shorebird Festival is being planned for Sept. 20-22. As usual, it will be based at the Oregon Institute for Marine Biology (63466 Boat Basin Rd. in Charleston). Most details have not yet been published, but birders and others interested in coastal ecology will want to mark their calendars for this landmark event.
The festival is a celebration of Oregon shorebirds and an educational experience, featuring field and pelagic trips, talks, birdwatching, and shared meals. Online registration for the event will be open soon at www.oregonshorebirdfestival.org. This event is sponsored by Cape Arago Audubon Society in partnership with OIMB and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
This year’s festival will feature Red Knots with a presentation by Janet Essley of The Red Knot Project. She explore at the natural history, behavior and migration on the two subspecies of the Americas: roselaari and rufa.
More information will be provided here when it is available.
