The Friends of Otter Rock group invites the public to join them for a Zoom meeting, featuring a talk on Black Oystercatchers by wildlife biologist Halle Renn.  The event takes place on Friday, May 15, 6 p.m.

The talk will provide general information about oystercatchers, discuss conservation concerns where the bird is concerned, and touch on the nest monitoring project coordinated by Portland Audubon, and the state’s new rocky habitat management strategy, since oystercatchers are part of the rocky shore ecosystem.

Halle Renn is a Wildlife Technician for the U.S. Forest Service, based in Hebo. She has lived in the area since 2017 when she moved from Ohio to work for the Forest Service. She graduated from Ohio University with a Bachelor of Science in Wildlife and Conservation Biology but says that her passion has always been birds. Halle is currently busy at work conducting point count surveys of birds within our forests for an ongoing study. She is also a board member and membership coordinator for the Audubon Society of Lincoln City.
