Politics, science, and climate change mix when U.S. Rep. Suzanne Bonamici hosts a panel discussion on “Our Oceans and Climate Change” on Friday, June 14, 5 p.m. at the Barbey Maritime Center (1792 Marine Dr.) in Astoria.
The panel represents an impressive range of expertise in oceanography and climate effects: Dr. George Waldbusser, a professor of ocean ecology and biogeochemistry at Oregon State University and an expert in ocean acidification; Maria Kavanaugh, also a professor of ocean ecology and biogeochemistry at OSU and an expert in seascape ecology, remote sensing, and global change; and Laurie Weitkamp, a research fisheries biologist with NOAA’s Northwest Fisheries Science Center, who studies the impact of climate change on salmon.
A reception precedes the panel at 4:30 p.m.
